What Are Propellants? And why we don’t use them in Tatva

Let’s talk about something you probably spray in your home without thinking twice — Propellants.

You’ll find them in most aerosol room sprays. But here at Tatva, we made a conscious decision not to use them. Why? Because we believe your home deserves cleaner air, not compressed chemicals.

So, What are Propellants?

Propellants are the gases that push the liquid fragrance out of an aerosol can. You press the nozzle — and whoosh! — the mist comes out.

Sounds harmless, right? Except most of the time, you’re not just spraying fragrance. You’re also releasing LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), butane, propane, or isobutane into your home.

Here’s what that really means:

• These are the same gases used in lighters and stoves.
• They are flammable and can pose fire risks.
• When inhaled regularly, they may trigger asthma, headaches, or respiratory irritation.
• They contribute to indoor air pollution, especially in closed spaces like bathrooms or bedrooms.

Why are brands still using Propellants?

It’s simple: they’re cheap, effective, and make the product feel powerful.

• The gas creates a big burst of fragrance.
• It helps spread the scent faster.
• It gives the illusion of more product being used, even if the actual fragrance content is low.

But here’s the problem: you’re often breathing in more gas than fragrance.

Why Tatva says no to Propellants

When we created Tatva, we asked ourselves: “Would we want to spray this around our kids, elders, or our pooja room?”

The answer was clear. So we chose a manual mist pump — no pressure, no propellant, no fire hazard.

Instead, we use a base of perfumer’s alcohol, blended with temple-inspired notes of Sandalwood, Tulsi, Camphor, and Jasmine.

The result? A gentle, controlled mist that delivers what matters — Fragrance, not gas.

What we breathe matters

Choosing a gas-free spray like Tatva means:

• Cleaner indoor air
